Source edition: charles-1906-enoch

Selected edited-edition working text. Source review and these notes do not establish human-specialist, independent-manuscript or full-book certification.

Chapter and verse addresses follow the supplied selected-edition POB records. Each available verse is displayed once; artwork does not certify source completeness.

  • 37:1[a] The printed heading repeats “vision” and “saw”; this translation retains the repetition. “Second” can also be rendered “another.” The apparatus records differing omissions in the heading.
  • 37:2[a] The edition brackets እብል, “I say,” as a duplicated expression. It is recorded in the source but is not translated as a second speaking clause.
  • 37:2[b] The address distinguishes former and latter people, naturally understood as earlier and later generations; the translation preserves the temporal contrast.
  • 37:3[a] The opening “these former ones” stands apart grammatically in the printed Ge’ez. This translation connects it with “to speak”; the editor records alternative case forms.
  • 37:4[a] The syntax of this statement is difficult. The selected edition prints a negative at its opening and repeats “as”; the rendering preserves these rather than supplying an unexpressed comparison such as “greater wisdom.” Its apparatus records a manuscript reading “which” in place of the negative. The final clauses continue across the page and explicitly mention wisdom and a share of eternal life.
  • 37:5[a] More literally, “there were three parables with me.”
