Graphic Bible · Scene 11 of 14

Fine stars and thin cloud fill a vast uninhabited sky.
Artwork is an interpretation. Scripture is quoted from the People's Open Bible. Ages, appearances, generational joining, book format, wind, dwellings, sky and ordinary light are editorial choices, not authenticated portraits, artifacts, rituals, geography or dated events. The rear-view Chosen One is an unnamed cue for the selected title, not identified as Jesus or the Lord of Spirits. The source variants and interpolation remain in the dedicated notes. God and the Lord of Spirits are not pictured. Vision and poetic imagery

Source edition: charles-1906-enoch

Selected edited-edition working text. Source review and these notes do not establish human-specialist, independent-manuscript or full-book certification.

Chapter and verse addresses follow the supplied selected-edition POB records. Each available verse is displayed once; artwork does not certify source completeness.

  • 39:1[a] The printed Ge’ez retains the word “children.” The compressed wording may also be understood as “children of the chosen and holy ones.” Charles brackets the passage from 38:6 through the first part of 39:2 as an interpolation; it is retained here with that editorial judgment disclosed.
  • 39:2[a] Charles’s interpolation bracket, opened at 38:6, closes here after the books of tumult and confusion. This is an editorial assessment of the passage, not a claim that it is absent from every manuscript. “Tumult” may also be rendered “disturbance” or “outcry.”
  • 39:6[a] Charles prints the singular “Chosen One.” His apparatus records plural readings and readings with an added word for “dwelling place.” This translation follows the selected critical text, not unanimous manuscript testimony. “Faithfulness” may also be rendered “faith.”
  • 39:7[a] Dillmann’s 1865 lexicon, column33, gives the meanings “be adorned” and “shine” for this verb and cites this verse’s comparison with the light of fire. Charles’s apparatus records variant forms; this rendering follows his selected printed verb, not an inferred meaning from the simile alone.
  • 39:7[b] The final uprightness clause is printed by Charles, but the apparatus records its omission in several manuscripts.
  • 39:8[a] The Ge’ez says, compactly, “there my portion was before.” It places Enoch’s portion there beforehand without specifying a more exact point in time.
  • 39:9[a] Or “strengthened me” or “made me firm.” The verb is related to “was established” in verse 8.
  • 39:12[a] The printed text says “spirits,” not “glory.” The wording is not harmonized to the similar praise in Isaiah 6:3.
