37When they heard this, they were pierced to the heart, and they said to Peter and the rest of the apostles, “What should we do, brothers?”

38And Peter said to them, “Reorient toward God, and let each of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins, and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.”

39For the promise is for you and for your children and for all who are far off, as many as the Lord our God calls.

40And with many other words he solemnly testified and kept urging them, saying, “Be saved from this crooked generation.”

41So those who received his word were baptized, and about three thousand souls were added on that day.
