Story guide: Back with their own people, the apostles report the threats. The believers pray for boldness; the gathering place is shaken, and they continue speaking God’s word.
Open this scene in the reader →23After they were released, they went to their own people and reported all that the chief priests and the elders had said to them.
When they heard this, they lifted their voices together to God and said, “Master, you are the one who made heaven and earth and sea, and everything in them,”
who, through the Holy Spirit, by the mouth of David your servant, said: ‘Why did the nations rage, and the peoples devise vain things?’
The kings of the earth took their stand, and the rulers were gathered together against the Lord and against his Messiah.
For truly in this city Herod and Pontius Pilate, together with the Gentiles and the peoples of Israel, were gathered against your holy servant Jesus, whom you anointed,
to do whatever your hand and your purpose had predestined to happen.
And now, Lord, look upon their threats and grant your servants to speak your word with all boldness,
while you stretch out your hand for healing, and signs and wonders are done through the name of your holy servant Jesus.
And when they had prayed, the place in which they were gathered was shaken, and they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and were speaking the word of God with boldness.
