Colossians 3:5-11

Put On the New Self

The New Life of the Community · Colossians 3

Story guide: Visual essay — artwork is an interpretation. Changing garments interprets the old and new self; the anonymous gathering illustrates verse 11. It does not enact wrongdoing or invent a conversion story.

5Therefore, put to death the members that are on the earth: sexual immorality, impurity, passion, evil desire, and greed, which is idolatry.

6Because of these things the wrath of God is coming upon the sons of disobedience.

7In these things you too once walked, when you were living in them.

8But now you also must put away all these things: anger, rage, malice, slander, and filthy speech from your mouth.

9Do not lie to one another, since you have stripped off the old man with his practices,

10and have put on the new self, which is being renewed in knowledge according to the image of the one who created it,

11where there is no Greek and Jew, circumcision and uncircumcision, barbarian, Scythian, servant, free, but Messiah is all, and in all.
