Graphic Bible · Scene 11 of 13

Exodus 10:23-23. Three days without rising. Interior of an Egyptian mudbrick home during the three days of thick darkness. Three unnamed fully clothed adults sit motionless apart from one another on low reed mats, barely discernible outlines, faces downcast and unable to see each other. Simple clay jars and a low wooden stool dissolve into blue-black shadow. Use extremely restrained edge definition so the reader can discover the figures while the room remains overwhelmingly dark; no bright lamp, window beam, moon or stars. Stillness, isolation and heavy darkness rather than ordinary nighttime social gathering. Dignified human anatomy, tactile hand-inked gouache graphic novel, no text, supernatural creature or visible deity. No Moses, Aaron or Pharaoh. Bronze Age Exodus setting, not first-century staging. One 16:9 single scene. No text or lettering.
Artwork is an interpretation. Scripture is quoted from the People's Open Bible.
