The Sword and the Forked Road · Ezekiel 21
Story guide: The established king model anchors a historically framed decision without endorsing divination.
Open this scene in the reader →23And the word of Yahweh came to me, saying,
24And you, son of man, set for yourself two roads for the sword of the king of Babylon to come by; both of them shall go out from one land. And make a signpost; make it at the head of the road to the city.
25You shall set a road for the sword to come to Rabbah of the Ammonites, and to Judah in fortified Jerusalem.
26For the king of Babylon stands at the mother of the road, at the head of the two roads, to practice divination: he shakes the arrows, he consults the teraphim, he examines the liver.
27In his right hand was the divination for Jerusalem: to set battering rams, to open the mouth with slaughter, to raise the voice with a battle cry, to set battering rams against the gates, to heap up a siege ramp, to build a siege wall.
28And it will be to them like a false divination in their eyes; they have sworn sworn oaths to them, but he brings guilt to remembrance, so that they may be captured.
29Therefore thus says the Lord GOD: Because you have brought your guilt to remembrance by uncovering your transgressions, so that your sins are seen in all your deeds, because you have come to remembrance, you will be seized by the hand.
