There was a famine in the land, and Abram went down to Egypt to sojourn there, because the famine was severe in the land.

And it happened, as he was about to enter Egypt, that he said to Sarai his wife, “Look now, I know that you are a woman beautiful in appearance.”

And it will be that when the Egyptians see you, they will say, ‘This is his wife,’ and they will kill me, but they will let you live.

Please say that you are my sister, so that it may go well with me because of you, and my life may be spared on your account.

And when Abram entered Egypt, the Egyptians saw that the woman was very beautiful.

When Pharaoh’s officials saw her, they praised her to Pharaoh, and the woman was taken into Pharaoh’s house.

And he treated Abram well because of her, and he came to have sheep and cattle and male donkeys and male servants and female servants and female donkeys and camels.
