It happened that when Isaac was old and his eyes were too dim to see, he called Esau his older son and said to him, “My son,” and he said to him, “Here I am.”

And he said, “Look now, I have grown old; I do not know the day of my death.”

Now then, please take your equipment—your quiver and your bow—and go out to the field and hunt game for me.

Prepare for me tasty food, just as I love, and bring it to me, that I may eat, so that my soul may bless you before I die.

Rebekah was listening when Isaac spoke to Esau his son, and Esau went to the field to hunt game and bring it back.

And Rebekah said to Jacob her son, “Look, I heard your father speaking to Esau your brother, saying,”

Bring me game and make me tasty food, so that I may eat and bless you before Yahweh before I die.’

Now, my son, listen to my voice as to what I command you.

Please go to the flock and get for me from there two good young goats, and I will make them into tasty food for your father, just as he loves.

Then you shall bring it to your father, and he will eat, so that he may bless you before his death.

But Jacob said to Rebekah his mother, “Look, Esau my brother is a hairy man, and I am a smooth man.”

Perhaps my father will feel me, and I will seem to him like a deceiver, and I will bring a curse on myself and not a blessing.

His mother said to him, “Your curse be on me, my son. Only listen to my voice, and go, get them for me.”

So he went and took them and brought them to his mother, and his mother prepared tasty food, just as his father loved.

Then Rebekah took the choice garments of Esau her older son, which were with her in the house, and put them on Jacob her younger son.

And she put the skins of the young goats on his hands and on the smooth part of his neck.

Then she put the tasty food and the bread that she had made into the hand of Jacob her son.
