Jacob rose early in the morning, took the stone that he had placed at his head, set it up as a pillar, and poured oil on its top.

And he called the name of that place Bethel, but formerly the name of the city was Luz.

Then Jacob made a vow, saying, “If God will be with me and will keep me on this way that I am going, and will give me bread to eat and clothing to wear,”

and I return in peace to my father's house, and Yahweh will be my God.

And this stone, which I have set up as a pillar, will be God’s house, and of all that you give me I will surely give a tenth to you.
