Open this scene in the reader →14So he spent that night there, and he took from what came to his hand a gift for Esau his brother:
two hundred female goats and twenty male goats, two hundred ewes and twenty rams.
thirty nursing camels and their young, forty cows and ten bulls, twenty female donkeys and ten foals.
He put each herd by itself into the hand of his servants, and said to his servants, “Pass on ahead of me, and put a space between herd and herd.”
And he commanded the first one, saying, “When Esau my brother meets you and asks you, ‘Whose are you, and where are you going, and whose are these before you?’...”
Then you shall say, ‘Your servant Jacob's gift is sent to my lord, to Esau; and look, he also is behind us.’
And he commanded the second also, and the third also, and all those going behind the droves, saying, “According to this word you shall speak to Esau when you find him.”
And you shall also say, ‘Look, your servant Jacob is behind us,’ for he said, ‘I will appease him with the gift that is going ahead of me, and afterward I will see his face; perhaps he will accept me.’
