Open this scene in the reader →25On the third day, while they were in pain, two of Jacob’s sons, Simeon and Levi, Dinah’s brothers, each took his sword, came against the city while it felt secure, and killed every male.
They also killed Hamor and his son Shechem with the sword, and they took Dinah from Shechem’s house and went out.
The sons of Jacob came upon the slain and plundered the city, because they had defiled their sister.
They took their flocks, their herds, their donkeys, and whatever was in the city and whatever was in the field.
They took captive all their wealth and all their little ones and their wives, and plundered everything that was in the house.
Then Jacob said to Simeon and Levi, “You have brought trouble on me, making me stink among the inhabitants of the land, among the Canaanites and the Perizzites. Since I am few in number, they will gather against me and strike me down, and I will be destroyed—I and my household.”
But they said, “Should he treat our sister like a prostitute?”
