Then Joseph fell on his father's face and wept over him and kissed him.

Then Joseph commanded his servants, the physicians, to embalm his father, and the physicians embalmed Israel.

Forty days were completed for him, for that is how the days of embalming are completed; and Egypt wept for him seventy days.

When the days of his mourning had passed, Joseph spoke to Pharaoh’s household, saying, “If I have now found favor in your eyes, please speak in Pharaoh’s hearing, saying,”

My father made me swear, saying, ‘Look, I am dying. In my grave that I dug for myself in the land of Canaan, there you shall bury me.’ So now, please let me go up and bury my father; then I will return.

And Pharaoh said, “Go up and bury your father, as he made you swear.”
