When Joseph’s brothers saw that their father was dead, they said, “What if Joseph hates us and fully repays us for all the evil that we did to him?”

So they sent word to Joseph, saying, “Your father commanded before his death, saying,”

This is what you shall say to Joseph: ‘Please forgive the transgression of your brothers and their sin, because they repaid you with evil. And now, please forgive the transgression of the servants of the God of your father.’ And Joseph wept when they spoke to him.

Then his brothers also came and fell down before him and said, “Here we are, your servants.”

But Joseph said to them, “Do not fear, for am I in the place of God?”

As for you, you intended evil against me, but God intended it for good, in order to bring about what is happening this day—to keep many people alive.

So now, do not be afraid. I myself will provide for you and your little ones.” Thus he comforted them and spoke to their hearts.
