Then they went to the king in the court, and they deposited the scroll in the chamber of Elishama the scribe, and they reported all the words in the hearing of the king.

Then the king sent Jehudi to get the scroll, and he took it from the chamber of Elishama the scribe. And Jehudi read it in the hearing of the king and in the hearing of all the officials standing beside the king.

The king was sitting in the winter house in the ninth month, with the brazier burning before him.

And whenever Yehudi had read three or four columns, he would cut it off with the scribe’s knife and throw it into the fire that was in the brazier, until the entire scroll was consumed in the fire that was in the brazier.

Yet neither the king nor any of his servants who heard all these words were afraid, nor did they tear their garments.

Yet even Elnathan, Delaiah, and Gemariah urged the king not to burn the scroll, but he did not listen to them.
