And after saying this, she went away and called Mary her sister privately, saying, “The Teacher is here and is calling for you.”

And when she heard it, she got up quickly and went to him.

Jesus had not yet come into the village, but was still in the place where Martha had met him.

So the Jews who were with her in the house and comforting her, when they saw that Mary got up quickly and went out, followed her, thinking that she was going to the tomb to weep there.

So when Mary came where Jesus was and saw him, she fell at his feet, saying to him, “Lord, if you had been here, my brother would not have died.”

Therefore, when Jesus saw her weeping, and the Jews who had come with her weeping, he was deeply moved in his spirit and troubled himself.

And he said, “Where have you laid him?” They said to him, “Lord, come and see.”

Jesus wept.

So the Jews were saying, “See how he loved him!”

But some of them said, “Could not this man, who opened the eyes of the blind man, also have made it so that this man would not die?”
