So when he had washed their feet and taken his garments and reclined again, he said to them, “Do you understand what I have done for you?”

You call me Teacher and Lord, and you speak rightly, for I am.

If I then, the Lord and the Teacher, have washed your feet, you also ought to wash one another’s feet.

For I have given you an example, so that just as I have done to you, you also may do.

Truly, truly, I say to you, a servant is not greater than his master, nor is an apostle greater than the one who sent him.

If you know these things, you are blessed if you do them.

I am not speaking about all of you. I know whom I have chosen. But this is so that the Scripture may be fulfilled: ‘The one who eats my bread has lifted up his heel against me.’

From now on I am telling you before it happens, so that when it does happen, you may believe that I am he.

Truly, truly, I say to you, whoever receives anyone I send receives me, and whoever receives me receives the one who sent me.
