There was a man there who had been in his sickness for thirty-eight years.

When Jesus saw this man lying there, and knew that he had already been there a long time, he said to him, “Do you want to become well?”

The sick man answered him, “Lord, I have no one to put me into the pool when the water is stirred up; but while I am coming, another goes down before me.”

Jesus says to him, “Get up, pick up your mat, and walk.”

And immediately the man became well, and he picked up his mat and began to walk. Now that day was a Sabbath.
