Life and the Witnesses · John 5
Story guide: The apostles are beaten, warned and released. They leave rejoicing that they were counted worthy to suffer dishonor for the Name, and continue teaching every day.
Open this scene in the reader →31If I testify about myself, my testimony is not true.
There is another who testifies about me, and I know that the testimony which he testifies about me is true.
You have sent to John, and he has testified to the truth.
But I do not receive testimony from man; rather, I say these things so that you may be saved.
He was the lamp that was burning and shining, and you were willing to rejoice for a time in his light.
But I have testimony greater than John's, for the works that the Father has given me to complete—these very works that I am doing—testify about me that the Father has sent me.
And the Father who sent me—that one has testified about me. You have neither ever heard his voice nor seen his form,
And you do not have his word abiding in you, because you do not believe the one whom he sent.
You search the Scriptures because you think that in them you have eternal life; and these are the ones that testify about me.
Yet you are not willing to come to me so that you may have life.
I do not receive glory from men,
But I know you: you do not have the love of God in yourselves.
I have come in my Father's name, and you do not receive me. If another comes in his own name, you will receive him.
How are you able to believe, receiving glory from one another and not seeking the glory that is from the only God?
Do not think that I will accuse you before the Father; there is one who accuses you: Moses, in whom you have put your hope.
For if you believed Moses, you would believe me, for he wrote about me.
But if you do not believe his writings, how will you believe my words?
