Jesus said, “Have the people sit down.” Now there was plenty of grass in the place. So the men sat down, about five thousand in number.

So Jesus took the loaves, and after giving thanks he distributed them to those who were reclining; likewise also from the fish, as much as they wanted.

And when they were filled, he says to his disciples, “Gather up the leftover pieces, so that nothing may be lost.”

So they gathered them, and filled twelve baskets with pieces from the five barley loaves left over by those who had eaten.

So when the people saw the sign that he had done, they were saying, “This truly is the Prophet who is coming into the world.”

So Jesus, knowing that they were about to come and seize him in order to make him king, withdrew again to the mountain by himself.
