At dawn he came again to the temple, and all the people were coming to him; and he sat down and began to teach them.
Then the scribes and the Pharisees brought to him a woman caught in adultery, and having set her in the midst,
They said to him, "Teacher, this woman has been caught in the very act of committing adultery."
In our law, Moses commanded that such women be stoned. So what do you say?
They were saying this to test him, so that they might have an accusation against him. But Jesus, bending down, wrote on the ground with his finger, paying no attention.
But when they continued questioning him, he straightened up and said to them, "Let the one among you who is without sin be the first to throw a stone at her."
And again, he stooped down and wrote on the ground.
But those who heard it, being convicted by their conscience, went out one by one, beginning with the older ones down to the last. And Jesus was left alone, with the woman standing in the midst.
Then Jesus straightened up, and seeing no one except the woman, said to her, "Woman, where are those accusers of yours? Has no one condemned you?"
She said, "No one, Lord." And Jesus said, "Neither do I condemn you; go, and sin no more."
