So Jesus was saying to the Jews who had believed him, “If you remain in my word, you are truly my disciples,”

and you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.

They answered him, “We are Abraham’s offspring and have never been enslaved to anyone. How can you say, ‘You will become free’?”

Jesus answered them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, everyone who practices sin is a servant of sin.”

The servant does not remain in the household forever; the son remains forever.

So if the Son sets you free, you will be truly free.

I know that you are Abraham’s offspring; but you are seeking to kill me, because my word has no place in you.

I speak what I have seen with the Father, and you, then, do what you have heard from your father.

They answered and said to him, “Abraham is our father.” Jesus says to them, “If you are Abraham’s children, you would be doing Abraham’s works.”

But now you are seeking to kill me, a man who has told you the truth that I heard from God. Abraham did not do this.

You are doing the works of your father.” They said to him, “We were not born of sexual immorality; we have one Father—God.”

Jesus said to them, “If God were your Father, you would love me, because I came from God and am here. For I have not come from myself, but he sent me.”

Why do you not understand my way of speaking? Because you are not able to hear my word.

You are from your father, the devil, and you want to do your father's desires. He was a murderer from the beginning, and he has not stood in the truth, because there is no truth in him. Whenever he speaks the lie, he speaks from his own nature, because he is a liar and the father of it.

But because I tell the truth, you do not believe me.

Which one of you convicts me of sin? If I speak the truth, why do you not believe me?

The one who is from God hears the words of God. For this reason you do not hear, because you are not from God.
