Open this scene in the reader →5And the people of Nineveh believed God, and they proclaimed a fast and put on sackcloth, from their greatest to their least.
6When the message reached the king of Nineveh, he rose from his throne, removed his robe, covered himself with sackcloth, and sat in the ashes.
7And he proclaimed and said in Nineveh, by decree of the king and his nobles: “Let neither man nor beast, herd nor flock, taste anything. Let them not graze, and let them not drink water.”
8Let both man and beast be covered with sackcloth, and let them call out mightily to God, and let each man turn from his evil way and from the violence that is in their hands.
9Who knows? God may turn and relent, and turn from the burning of his anger, so that we do not perish.
