Graphic Bible · Scene 6 of 16

On desert grasses, an elder teaches a family to distinguish winged crawling insects. Four edible leaping kinds with conspicuous jointed hind legs—locust, bald locust, cricket, and grasshopper—occupy the foreground, while a small non-leaping winged crawler remains apart and untouched. Natural insect scale enlarged only enough for clarity; no eating, swarm, plague, labels, specimen boxes, or fantastical anatomy.

20Every swarming winged creature that walks on four feet is detestable to you.

21Yet these you may eat from all the swarming things that fly, that go on all fours: those that have jointed legs above their feet to hop on the ground with them.

22These of them you may eat: the locust according to its kind, and the bald locust according to its kind, and the cricket according to its kind, and the grasshopper according to its kind.

23But every winged swarming thing that has four feet is detestable to you.
