But he, wanting to justify himself, said to Jesus, “And who is my neighbor?”

Jesus replied, “A certain man was going down from Jerusalem to Jericho, and he fell among robbers, who also stripped him, beat him, and went away, leaving him half dead.”

By chance a certain priest was going down on that road, and when he saw him, he passed by on the opposite side.

Likewise, a Levite also came to the place, and when he saw him, he passed by on the opposite side.

But a Samaritan, as he traveled, came to where he was, and when he saw him, he was moved with compassion.

And coming near, he bound up his wounds, pouring on oil and wine. Then he put him on his own animal, brought him to an inn, and took care of him.

And on the next day, taking out two denarii, he gave them to the innkeeper and said, ‘Take care of him, and whatever more you spend, I will repay you when I return.’

Which of these three seems to you to have become a neighbor to the man who fell among the robbers?

And he said, “The one who showed mercy to him.” Then Jesus said to him, “Go, and you do likewise.”
