Open this scene in the reader →22Then he said to his disciples, “For this reason I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat, nor about your body, what you will wear.”
For life is more than food, and the body more than clothing.
Consider the ravens: they neither sow nor reap; they have neither storeroom nor barn, and God feeds them. How much more valuable are you than the birds!
And which of you, by worrying, is able to add a cubit to his lifespan?
If, then, you are not able to do even the smallest thing, why are you anxious about the rest?
Consider the lilies, how they grow: they do not labor or spin; yet I tell you, not even Solomon in all his glory was clothed like one of these.
But if God so clothes the grass in the field, which is here today and tomorrow is thrown into an oven, how much more will he clothe you, you of little faith!
And you, do not seek what you may eat and what you may drink, and do not be unsettled.
For all these things the nations of the world seek, but your Father knows that you need these things.
But seek his kingdom, and these things will be added to you.
Do not fear, little flock, because your Father was pleased to give you the kingdom.
Sell your possessions and give alms. Make for yourselves money bags that do not wear out, an unfailing treasure in the heavens, where no thief comes near and no moth destroys.
For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.
Let your waists be girded and your lamps burning,
And you, be like men waiting for their lord when he returns from the wedding feast, so that when he comes and knocks, they may open to him at once.
Blessed are those servants whom the Lord, when he comes, will find staying awake. Truly I say to you, he will dress himself for service and have them recline at the table, and he will come and serve them.
Even if he comes in the second watch, or even in the third, and finds them so, blessed are those servants.
But know this: if the master of the house had known at what hour the thief was coming, he would not have allowed his house to be broken into.
You also must be ready, because the Son of Man is coming at an hour you do not expect.
