Luke 20:41-47
David Calls Him Lord
Authority, the Stone, and the Living God · Luke 20
Story guide: Jesus teaches leaders and ordinary listeners in the temple court with one hand over his heart. Jesus asks how the Messiah can be merely David’s son when David calls him Lord.
Open this scene in the reader →41But he said to them, “How do they say that the Messiah is David’s son?”
42For David himself says in the Book of Psalms, ‘The Lord said to my Lord, “Sit at my right hand”’
43until I make your enemies a footstool for your feet.
44David therefore calls him Lord, so how is he his son?
45And while all the people were listening, he said to the disciples:
46Beware of the scribes, who want to walk around in long robes, and who love greetings in the marketplaces and the best seats in the synagogues and places of honor at banquets,
47who devour widows’ houses and for a pretense pray at length. These will receive greater condemnation.
