Open this scene in the reader →1And from there, rising, he comes into the region of Judea and beyond the Jordan, and crowds gather to him again, and as was his custom, he again taught them.
And they were asking him whether it is lawful for a man to divorce a wife, testing him.
But he answered them, “What did Moses command you?”
They said, “Moses permitted us to write a certificate of divorce and send her away.”
But Jesus said to them, “Because of your hardness of heart he wrote this commandment for you.”
But from the beginning of creation, he made them male and female.
For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife,
and the two will become one flesh. So they are no longer two, but one flesh.
Therefore, what God has joined together, man must not separate.
And in the house again, the disciples were asking him about this.
And he says to them, “Whoever divorces his wife and marries another commits adultery against her.”
and if she divorces her husband and marries another man, she commits adultery.
