And as he was going out onto the road, one man ran up and knelt before him and asked him, “Good Teacher, what must I do so that I may inherit eternal life?”

But Jesus said to him, “Why do you call me good? No one is good except one—God.”

You know the commandments: Do not murder, do not commit adultery, do not steal, do not bear false witness, do not defraud, honor your father and mother.

And he said to him, “Teacher, I have kept all these things from my youth.”

And Jesus, looking at him, loved him and said to him, “One thing you lack: go, sell whatever you have and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come, follow me.”

But he, becoming gloomy at the word, went away grieving, for he had many possessions.

And looking around, Jesus says to his disciples, “How difficult it is for those who have wealth to enter the kingdom of God!”

But the disciples were astonished at his words. Jesus answered again and said to them, “Children, how difficult it is to enter the kingdom of God!”

It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God.

And they were exceedingly astonished, saying to one another, “Then who can be saved?”

Jesus looked at them and said, “With men it is impossible, but not with God, because all things are possible with God.”

Peter began to say to him, “Look, we have left everything and followed you.”

Jesus said, “Truly I say to you, there is no one who has left house or brothers or sisters or mother or father or children or fields for my sake and for the sake of the gospel,”

who will not receive a hundredfold now in this time—houses and brothers and sisters and mothers and children and fields, with persecutions—and in the age to come, eternal life.

But many who are first will be last, and the last first.
