1What then shall we say that Abraham, our forefather according to the flesh, has found?

2For if Abraham was justified by works, he has a boast—but not before God.

3For what does the Scripture say? Abraham believed God, and it was counted to him as righteousness.

4To the one who works, the wages are not credited as a gift, but as an obligation.

5But to the one not working, but believing in the one who justifies the ungodly, his faith is counted as righteousness.

6Just as David also speaks of the blessedness of the man to whom God credits righteousness apart from works:

7Blessed are those whose lawless deeds have been forgiven, and whose sins have been covered.

8Blessed is the man against whom the Lord will never count sin.
