A Seal and a Flame

A Love Many Waters Cannot Quench · Song of Songs 8

Story guide: A voice asks to remain close as a seal on heart and arm, then compares love's force with death and flame. Notice the seal beside the burning lamp: one suggests a lasting bond, the other intensity. 'A flame of Yah' gives the fire a divine association without making it a depiction of God.

6Set me as a seal upon your heart, as a seal upon your arm; for love is as strong as death, jealousy as relentless as Sheol. Its flashes are flashes of fire, a flame of Yah.
