The Covenants

Six pacts that frame the whole Bible.

Reading scope: canonical.

Noahic Covenant

After the flood, God binds himself to all flesh: never again. The rainbow is the first covenant sign — preservation as the floor on which every later promise stands.

Look for: Notice how 'noahic covenant sign' and 'common grace in creation' frame God's universal patience.

From a covenant with all flesh, God narrows to one family.

Abrahamic Covenant

Land, seed, and blessing for the nations. Abraham becomes the trunk from which the rest of the biblical story branches.

Look for: See 'seed promise across generations' and 'gentile inclusion foretold' — the promise is bigger than ethnic Israel from the start.

Centuries later, the seed family becomes a nation under law at Sinai.

Mosaic / Sinai Covenant

At Sinai, Israel is constituted as a kingdom of priests. The law is not the gospel — it's the shape of life with a holy God dwelling in your camp.

Look for: Track 'giving of the law at Sinai' and 'sinai theophany' — encounter precedes obligation.

From a nation under law, God raises a king under promise.

Davidic Covenant

An everlasting throne for David's house. This is the seedbed of messianic hope: the king Israel waits for is also the King the world needs.

Look for: Watch 'messianic servant kingship' connect this throne to the Christ.

The prophets begin to speak of a covenant deeper than law on stone — written on hearts.

New Covenant in Christ

Jeremiah's hint, Christ's fulfillment: a covenant that puts the law inside, forgives sin once for all, and makes the Spirit a permanent guest.

Look for: See 'new covenant heart renewal' and 'new covenant outpouring' — the inside-out transformation.

Underneath all five, one thread runs: grace, not desert.

Covenant of Grace

The Reformed reading: every covenant from Noah forward is one extended hand of unearned mercy, with Christ as the substance from page one.

Look for: Notice how this concept ties the prior five into a single redemptive plot.
