Build Carefully on the Foundation

Servants, Foundation, Temple, and No Boasting · 1 Corinthians 3

Story guide: Grace makes Paul a wise foundation-layer, and others must build carefully on Jesus Messiah, the only foundation. The Day tests each work: what endures is rewarded, what burns is loss, yet the builder is saved.

10According to the grace of God given to me, like a wise master builder I laid a foundation, and another builds on it. But let each one be careful how he builds.

11For no one can lay another foundation besides the one already laid, which is Jesus Christ.

12If anyone builds on the foundation with gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, straw,

13each one’s work will become evident, for the Day will disclose it, because it is revealed in fire, and the fire itself will test what sort of work each one has.

14If anyone’s work that he built on remains, he will receive a reward.

15If anyone’s work is burned up, he will suffer loss, but he himself will be saved—yet as through fire.
