He set another parable before them, saying, “The kingdom of heaven is like a mustard seed, which a man took and sowed in his field.”

It is indeed the smallest of all seeds, but when it has grown, it is larger than the garden plants and becomes a tree, so that the birds of the sky come and nest in its branches.

He told them another parable: “The kingdom of heaven is like leaven, which a woman took and hid in three measures of flour until it was all leavened.”

Jesus spoke all these things to the crowds in parables, and apart from a parable he said nothing to them.

so that what was spoken through the prophet might be fulfilled, saying: “I will open my mouth in parables; I will utter things hidden from the beginning.”
