Eyes That Overwhelm

My Beloved Is Mine · Song of Songs 6

Story guide: The beloved says the woman's eyes overwhelm him, then returns to the comparison of her hair with goats descending Gilead. Notice the portrait beside the moving flock. The verse conveys the effect she has on him, so the request to turn her eyes away belongs within admiration rather than a clear rejection.

5Turn your eyes away from me, for they overwhelm me. Your hair is like a flock of goats streaming down from Gilead.
