The Only One

My Beloved Is Mine · Song of Songs 6

Story guide: The beloved contrasts a multitude of royal women with the one he calls his dove and flawless one. Notice the woman distinct in the foreground among other women. The poem also imagines their praise of her; its emphasis is singular affection, without identifying her as a participant in a royal selection.

8There are sixty queens and eighty concubines, and young women without number.

9My dove, my flawless one, is the only one; she is her mother's only one, the favorite of the one who bore her. Young women saw her and called her blessed; queens and concubines also praised her.
